George Anderson has worked in financial services in the public and private sectors for over 35 years. He is past-President of Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. During his tenure at CMHC the corporation was selected by the Financial Post as one of the top 100 companies to work for in Canada. He is also past-President of the Insurance Bureau of Canada. He currently serves on several corporate and non-profit Boards including Royal and Sun Alliance Insurance Company, Johnson Inc. and Unifund Insurance of Newfoundland, the Lawyer’s Professional Indemnity Insurance Company and CODE, an organization devoted to promoting literacy in developing countries.

He has been a member of several international delegations including Head of Canadian Delegation to the Center for Human Settlements in Nairobi in 1987 during the international year of housing for the homeless, Chair of the Economic Commission for Europe Research Symposium on Urban Affairs in 1990 and Co-Chair of the Canada-US Joint Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs 1986-90.

Mr. Anderson was named Adjunct Professor of Leadership at St. Francis Xavier University where he taught a course on leadership and literature from 2002-05, and a Fellow of the Kroeger College of Public Affairs at Carleton University. He currently lectures on leadership in literature and legend at universities and professional organizations around the country.

Mr. Anderson received the Order of Canada in 2002. Other honours include Business Communicator of the Year by the International Association of Business Communicators (Washington, 1990), Honorary Doctor of Laws degrees from St. Francis Xavier University (2005) and Carleton University (2001), the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee medal (2002), and the first alumni Lifetime Achievement Award from the University of Regina (2005).

In June 2011 Mr. Anderson was appointed as Chairman of the Board of Directors of RSA Canada.

George divides his time between Toronto and Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia.
